Cancer Poem #2

It is a mid summer’s eve

and time to dream

of an endless tomorrow

filled with romantic illusion

But as the day seems long and hot

it is changed forever

in the twinkling of an eye

lives are turned upside down

Where have the butterflies gone

and why have the birds stopped singing

the children are a blur of colour

as they pass on their bicycles

and the stars have all

fallen from the sky

Fear blinds the eye

and drowns the soul

for it is all consuming

when we know not

what the morrow brings

to a body filled

with a disease so evil

Simple things are gone

that used to give us pleasure

maybe to return in a time

when we have healed

but for now all that can

be felt is the cold fear
