The Cedar Canoe is Loved

This weekend we finally were all able to get together when the weather was cooperating to do a little work on Ryan’s Canoe.  My brother-in-law, Dave, was the last person to put a coat of varnish on it a few years ago and it was time to do it again.

I woke up my boys early in the morning (9:30 a.m. is early for them) and we all went with our supplies and tools over to my parents where the canoe has been for a couple of weeks waiting for some TLC.  Mom talked and shared stories about Ryan as we sanded, wiped and painted.  As you touch the canoe, you can touch Ryan’s spirit; it brings him back to us.  I can’t wait to get it in the water and paddle around the bay.
