Thank You Maeve Binchy

Maeve Binchy passed away on July 30th after a brief illness.  She was 72.  Who was she? Really? You haven’t heard of Maeve Binchy???  She was only my most favourite author ever!!!! You must read one of her books.  Maeve was Irish and wrote stories about ordinary people living ordinary or not so ordinary lives.  The characters in her books were alive and lived in you and you always loved them,  no matter what they were up to.  I can’t even pick a favourite book and recently I just found one I hadn’t yet read when I was at a used book store in the city.  Wow, I was so excited and have been saving it for my winter reading selection, when it is cold outside and you cuddle up on the sofa with some hot chocolate or tea.

Her books always had a connecting factor or person from one to the other so that you really got to know the entire village of people.  Some of her books are:  Circle of Friends, Quentins, Tara Road, Light a Penny Candle, The Lilac Bus and Minding Frankie.  You can and should check out her website at http://www.maevebinchy.com/

Thank you Maeve Binchy for your glorious writing; for bringing Ireland to me.  I will miss you.

  1. CBC Radio re-broadcast a great interview with her last night. What a lovely woman she was, as well as a wonderful writer who had a compassion for us hapless humans that shone through in everything she wrote.
