Graduation 2013 – Ryan Tetlock Memorial Award

The Grad ceremony this year was absolutely fantastic.  I enjoy watching the students graduate each year and plan to go off and start their lives in the world.  It is a happy/sad time for parents.  Our babies are growing up!

Since Ryan’s memorial award was started, we have given out $5000.00 to six students who are contributing to drug and alcohol/suicide awareness.  This year’s recipient is Michaela James.  She leaves for Guelph University in the fall and I am so proud of her.  Michaela knows what is it like to live through losing her brother to suicide.  She is an amazing girl.  Congratulations Michaela!

One of the highlights of the ceremony was the song sung by all of the teaching staff to the graduates.  “We Salute You”.  It was funny and awesome!  Red Lake has such a great group of teachers right now.  They really care about the students and spend so much time with them.  Mr. Bausch and Ms Vachon were chosen by the staff and students to make this years speech and they chose to sing it!

I shed a lot of tears this year…

  1. What a lovely picture of you and Michaela! I’m glad you had fun at this year’s graduation, and what a nice award you give to a fortunate student each year in memory of your son! It is a very wonderful tribute indeed!
