A Simple Life

Is there such a thing?  What does it look like? Life is simple.  Life is not simple. Life is what we make of it? Hmmm, philosophy.

I was raised in simpler times, before cell phones, video games and the internet.  But even back then life could be complicated.  There were still economy issues, making ends meet, sickness, deaths, births, divorce and wars. But I think all in all, life was a little slower when we didn’t have to check on facebook constantly to see what’s been posted or who is having a birthday, we couldn’t shop at any time of the day or night and we didn’t know of all the horrible things going on in the world if we didn’t read a newspaper or watch CBC news.

My father always had a job, even though at times they were creative ones as he liked to be his own boss.  We had a small house that he built himself but not too many people had large houses. My mother sewed a lot of our clothes and I wore my older sister’s hand-me-downs. Yeah, those were the good times.

There was time to lay on the lawn and make animals out of the clouds on hot summer days.  There was time to lay in the snow and make snow angels on warm winter days. There was time to sit down at the table and play a game of monopoly. But I must get going now, have to check facebook to see how many posts I’ve missed, check twitter for any new tweets and see what’s new on Netflix.
