Graveyard Poem

 

 

Secrets taken, never spoken

 

mysteries we will never know

 

they’re buried down deep

 

under the ground, under the snow

 

Only the wind whispers

 

of lies ended, stories never told

 

through the trees, barren branches

 

over the crosses and headstones

 

There they lie, silently, sleeping

 

taken with them to eternity

 

everything that meant anything

 

all the joys and pain of humanity

 

Cold hands place wilted flowers

 

a prayer breathed in the frosty morn

 

tears that fall turn to drops of ice

 

like diamonds in the snow

 

Look to the sky up above

 

grey clouds move so swiftly, blown

 

threatening of an eternity

 

but promising of an end down below
