Graveyard Poem

Secrets taken, never spoken

mysteries we will never know

they’re buried down deep

under the ground, under the snow

Only the wind whispers

of lies ended, stories never told

through the trees, barren branches

over the crosses and headstones

There they lie, silently, sleeping

taken with them to eternity

everything that meant anything

all the joys and pain of humanity

Cold hands place wilted flowers

a prayer breathed in the frosty morn

tears that fall turn to drops of ice

like diamonds in the snow

Look to the sky up above

grey clouds move so swiftly, blown

threatening of an eternity

but promising of an end down below
